Let's go to School!
When Education Director Carol Byrnes and her animal friends arrive at school, they are met by lots of smiles.
Carol and her "right hand man" Eddie the whippet visit over 4,000 kids in schools every year. They are usually accompanied by Murphy the leopard tortoise.
Here are a few pictures from our visits (please be patient - they take awhile to load):
Eddie waves to the students.
At classroom visits, students learn how to meet animals properly, so they will
remain safe, and the animal will feel safe, too. Quiet voices and bodies are
a must!

Little people must learn to be gentle when petting. No pulling tails!
Many teachers hold pet food drives to encourage their students to make donations to help us help the animals. Each December at Ridgeview Elementary, the students bake homemade dog biscuits and make toys for the animals who will spend the holidays in the shelter and to sell to raise money to help us care for the animals in our care.
Eddie inspects the donation and gives his approval:

At the end of every program, Eddie enjoys showing off his tricks - his favorite
"Air Jordan" jump:
and his grand finale: the jump and catch!
At the end of a long hard day at school, Eddie is ready for a nap with dad:
